Doctor Akhtar listens to you. I like my primary doctor ; however, St Francis Hospital sucks if you have to spend time there after surgery or otherwise. Had surgery on March 1, 2024. A couple of the nurses were great when checking in on you, but wasn't often. One nurse found that opening a blood pressure cuff next to your head to wake you up when your asleep was funny to her I guess, as that is what she did and startled me awake. She was not friendly or asked if I needed anything. Just took vitals and left the room. Asked her to leave door open and she closed it. My door had a Fall Risk sign, but no one bothered to help me out of bed or walk with me as I was told I needed to walk. No one asked if I needed help as they passed me by in the hall while I struggled to walk. Depressing the button to get someone to come to my room took 10-15 minutes. Wonder what would have happened if I was choking on food or had fallen down trying to get out of bed. The first day, I received calls for breakfast, lunch & dinner. The following days, I had to contact the kitchen after I found that they expected me to call them, but I was not told that beforehand. You used to get daily sheets to select your meals that they would fill. The second day was breakfast at 3:00. Called the nurse at 2:15 to complain and she called them. They told her I had called at 2:00 for which I said it was 1:00 and I could read a clock. The friendliest staff were the cleaning staff. They had smiles and asked how I was doing and if I needed anything. Really? The cleaning staff? I was very displeased with St Francis. If I ever need surgery again, I will ask to have it at Stormont!

I met with Dr. Akhtar last week and I have been raving about my experience to family and friends. I was impressed by how everyone in the office welcomed me, introduced themselves and took the time to get to know me as it was my first visit. Since I had fasted, I was able to have my blood drawn before I ever left the office and had results in less than 24 hours. Highly recommend anyone needing a new internal medicine Dr to make an appointment to see Dr. Akhtar.
